Walking, cycling, horse riding, bird watching, scuba diving, fishing and golfing holidays in Scotland - Islay has it all. There are excellent restaurants with the emphasis on local produce, and then, of course the whisky !! Islay has a unique ability to produce the most  powerful, challenging and rewarding malt whiskies in the world.

There are now 8 distilleries on the island, including the farm distillery opened last year at Rockside Farm, Kilhoman. East of Port Ellen lie Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg, which has a very good restaurant.  Caol Ila and Bunnabhain lie on the Sound of Islay, north of the ferry port of Port Ascaig.  Bowmore and Bruichladdich are on opposite shores of Loch Indaal, Bruichladdich just 3 miles north of Port Charlotte. Most have visitor centres and run guided tours, (with free samples!).

Islay is known as the 'Queen of the Hebridean Islands' with it's situation in the warm waters of the Gulf Stream giving a mild climate, We have many wonderful sunrises and beautiful sunsets, make sure you bring a camera ! We also have a Jazz Festival each September

Port Charlotte dates back to 1828 when it was established by the Laird of Islay to house the workers in the Distillery at Loch Indaal. Number 3 Main Street is a period house forming part of a whitewashed terrace adjoining the main street in the Conservation village of Port Charlotte. It has three double bedrooms, great location for selfcatering holiday Islay Scotland - click here for full details
